Welcome to the first dedicated website in Canada designed to encourage and assist strata corporations to create more smoke-free options for British Columbians living in condominium complexes. While provincial and municipal laws provide British Columbians with extensive protections from second-hand smoke in workplaces and public places, many people are still being exposed to unwanted second-hand smoke where they live. Despite strong public support and demand for smoke-free homes, there is a critical shortage of smoke-free condominium complexes for British Columbians who want and need to live smoke-free. The good news is that it is legal for strata corporations to adopt a non-smoking bylaw that bans smoking on the interior common property, on limited common property and inside strata lots. Whether you are concerned about the health of your residents, tired of responding to complaints about unwanted second-hand smoke, or simply want to reduce the fire hazard associated with buildings that permit smoking – it may be time to consider going smoke-free.
